Field Trip

Paige went on a field trip the the Marine Science Center at Ponce Inlet this week. Melissa and I both volunteered and Paige was super happy to be the only kid in her class who had both parents along for the trip. She was also excited for her first ever school bus ride!

Here she's sitting in the front of the bus and looking at her friend Georgia in the mirror.

These are out of order and we were actually on the way back to the school and Paige was acting goofy from being so tired.

For all of her exhaustion, she still managed to break out her Paige Poses.

She didn't look too excited during the talks from the people but at least she behaved.

Melissa providing some guidance on coloring.

Learning about some of the birds and how they ended up at the rehab center.

They rehab turtles in there too.

Paige learning about the turtles.

This turtle has a messed up shell but once it heals it'll go back to the ocean. They do a "Turtle Day" where they release the rehabbed turtles on the beach just north of the center.

Loving the turtle talk.

She doesn't mind the reptiles but the kid next to her doesn't like snakes at all.

Looking at an owl and learning not to mess with baby wild birds.

When the owl came out it tried to fly away which got a reaction out of the kids.

Paige and Sophia FTW!

Paige and Sophia had their 2nd game of the year and then came out on top 1-0 with Paige scoring the only goal of the match. They had a later game and it was SUPER hot, like low 90's and high humidity. There's zero shade at the fields too, so they were really suffering.

Soph gets in and mixes it up.

Paige was dribbling through the entire field for the first 2 quarters. Here is on of her early shots. Unlike Em, this age group has tiny goals. So Paige had a tough time getting on by the goalie early on.

There were a lot of pictures like this... Paige controlling the ball with no one while the other team looked on helplessly!

Soph had a great game this week. She paid attention and you can see here she's coming back to help her sister out.

The sisters ready to play some D

Yep... Paige on another breakaway.

And taking another shot at the tiny goal.

Great form on the throw-in. It's crazy to me how many of the teams ignore basic soccer skills like this and the kids have no idea what to do.

Some more sisterly team work.

Okay, so it was so hot that by the 4th quarter some of the kids were refusing to play. So Paige wasn't feeling great but agreed to play in goal. Then she was dry-heaving through the end of the game because it was so hot she was getting nauseous. Nice!

Eye of the TIGER!

The sisters leading the pack.

More of the same. If "the same" is TOTAL DOMINATION!

Soph showing her skills.

Game 1 for Emma

Emma had her first game of the YMCA soccer season Saturday. She had an awesome day with 6 goals. Her team won 8 to nothing I think. Pictures of Sophia and Paige in the next post. They had a great day too!

Here she takes a shot for one of her 4 first-half goals.

Those guys can't stop her!

Looks like her and Will are leaving the other team in the dust. Or at least on the grass.

Acrobatic.

On another run at the goal.
Somehow she snuck this one past the goalie into that corner. It helped her a lot on the other goals she scored that this season the goals are HUGE for this age group, but she made this on tougher than she had to by going into the tiny corner.

Tired, but still running. Tongue hanging out like Michael Jordan.

This is my favorite goal of the game. Em's team was already up 2-0 and this kid playing goal for the other team threw a tantrum at his coach yelling and waving his arms that he should be playing goal since they'd already given up 2. So the coach let him in there and this is the first shot he faced. Goal for Emma and that kid barely moved to try to stop it!

October Beach

Since it's October, but still hovering around 90 degrees here we hit the beach today. The water was super clear and pretty warm.

Here is Mermaid Paige. The sand-tail didn't show up that well in the picture.

Body boarding Paiger.

And Sophie looks like she was having a good time.

More smiles.

Soccer Saturday

Saturday was the first day of soccer season. We decided to try the YMCA again instead of NSB Rec since Rec has been a disaster the last couple of seasons. Now YMCA has proven out to be not much better. For some reason they decided that they would have a ton of kids on each team AND an uneven number of teams. So that means Emma had a bye week on the first stupid week of soccer. Nice planning, tools!

Paige and Sophia are on the same team this year and it's Soph's first time playing organized soccer.

Paige was the main bright spot for her team. She'll have a heavy burden this year.

The girls are doing well, but Paie had a bit of a fever over the weekend.

Soph trailing the play.

Paige and Soph d-up just after the ball was played in on a corner kick.

Paige started in goal and she was peppered the entire first period. Her defense kind of left her hanging as you may be able to tell by the fact the Paige and Coach Melissa are the only peeps in the picture when this sweet save was made.

Soph had a few moments of concentration.

And a few moments of just running around behind her sister or friends.

Paige really had a good game, especially for being sick.

I think she was one of only 2 players to carry the ball into the offensive end for her team.

You might be able to tell from this picture, but the other team was mostly boys and mostly 1st graders.

Paige can only go so far on her own!

And now heading back on defense...

Way to spread out, purple!

This is what Soph did after she took herself out of the game with a horrific knee injury. She had scraped it the day before and she decided it couldn't support her any more... Don't worry, after the game she made a miraculous recovery.

Paige was tired and thirsty when she got subbed out.
