Here is a nice little slide show that Unkie Greg set up for your viewing pleasure! We had a pretty great day in DC, we couldn't have asked for better weather. There were puffy white clouds, a bright blue sky, a nice breeze and it was only 80 or 85 degrees!! The sky had been hazy everyday so far so I was happy to see picture perfect weather!
Our day started off with a fun ride on the Metro. It was the girls first ride of course and they were totally impressed. I was totally impressed with the fact that the Metro still looks the same after all these years! The Metro was very crowded and we had to stand. Some nice young men offered their seats to me and the girls, chivalry still exists! Even in the big city! I remember how no one use to ride the Metro, how things change, but I digress...
Once we arrived at the Smithsonian stop we climbed the escalator to sunlight and started walking towards the Washington Monument. For the next 30 minutes the girls tried to convince their Uncle Greg that there was a princess up in that castle that needed to be rescued! Unfortunately the tickets were all gone to get to the top of the castle so we told the girls that some one else would have to rescue her!
After that we walked along the reflecting pool to the Lincoln Memorial. There were close to a million ducks and ducklings in that dirty pool and Em threw a fit that she couldn't bring one home. The promised to save some of their sandwiches to bring back for the duckies. We ate lunch outside of Lincoln and then climbed the stairs to take a gander. The girls seemed to like looking at that big statue the most. Hopefully the will get to visit DC again when they can appreciate all the history they took in today...
We visted a couple of the war memorials before heading back. We saw the new WWII one and it is very beautiful with some great artwork by the entrance. This is the memorial that that HO from American Idol defaced when she shot her skeezy internet pics in the fountains! I made Gregory take some more tasteful shots of me and I had more than just my underwear on!
The last stops included the Vietnam Memorial and the Women's War Memorial. It was very difficult to explain to the girls what all the statues represented and I still don't think I fully covered it. Em's the only one that would understand anyway. The girls were pretty well behaved seeing as how we dragged them around for 4 hours! Sophi actually got the award for the day for the best behavior!
That concludes our days events! Stay tuned for more!
